Fish sanctuaries
are vital to the preservation of marine life and the protection of the ocean's
delicate ecosystem. Local fish sanctuaries are a valuable resource for both
environmental preservation and sustainable fishing practices in many coastal
communities. One such fish sanctuary can be found in our beloved province of
Southern Leyte. The Son-ok Fish Sanctuary is located after the well-known

Son-ok Fish Sanctuary is a place where
you can find solitude and an ideal place to hideaway. You can peacefully sit
on the rocks with different formations. You can relax from the shades of big
old trees, breathe fresh air, or benefit from the calming effect of blue sea
water. Here, you can snorkel or scuba dive and witness the beauty of the
underwater world up close.

But the real star of the show is our whale shark sites. Do you wish to swim with the enormous creature? These gentle sea giants, also known as "butanding" or "ihong tiki," are among the world's largest fish. Swimming alongside them is also an absolute blast and an experience of a lifetime. This Fish Sanctuary is well-known for whale shark sightings, and you can observe them in their natural environment. Their sheer size and grace as they glide through the water will astound you.

However, before
swimming with the whale sharks, all tourists must be briefed before
being given trip tickets to engage in whale shark interaction. Then you'll need
spotters and tour guides, which KASAKA will provide. KASAKA is authorized by
the Local Government Unit and is in charge of the overall management, control,
supervision, and maintenance of the whale shark interaction tours and the
Son-ok Fish Sanctuary's guarding system. One of KASAKA's primary
responsibilities is to provide spotters and tour guides for whale shark-watching tours that visit the area.
